At Mad Black Cat, we believe education works best when it feels like fun. That’s why we’re proud to introduce the first animated video in the Trafford and Friends safety series — a fresh approach to child-centred learning through storytelling, song, and play – for the N332 Road Safety Project.
Meet Trafford, the N332 Road Safety Raccoon. Friendly, familiar, and full of curiosity, Trafford is more than just a mascot — he’s a learning companion. In our opening video, Beach Safe with Trafford, he takes children (and their grown-ups) on a sunny seaside adventure, with sing-along songs and engaging visuals designed to teach essential beach safety habits in a light-hearted and memorable way.
But beneath the cheerful animation lies a carefully considered educational philosophy.
Learning That Lasts
The series is built upon a multisensory foundation. We use audio, visual, and tactile cues to enhance engagement and retention — principles aligned with Cognitive Load Theory. In essence, we reduce extraneous distractions while combining sights, sounds, and interaction to help young brains absorb and retain essential messages without overwhelm.
The animations are intentionally simple and friendly in design, carefully paced to allow time for thinking, reflection, and enjoyment. We always encourage children to enjoy the episodes alongside a trusted adult, fostering shared learning experiences and discussion — a crucial component in reinforcing behavioural messages at home and in the classroom.
Beyond Road Safety
While Trafford’s origins are rooted in the N332 Road Safety Project, this series is about more than just traffic awareness. Each episode will touch on different real-world safety topics — from pedestrian awareness to environmental responsibility, stranger danger, and seasonal risks like sun exposure or Halloween hazards.
By embedding early risk-awareness into fun, relatable stories, we aim to help children grow up with the instincts and understanding to make safer choices — not just now, but throughout their lives.
What’s Next?
Beach Safe with Trafford is only the beginning. Our production schedule includes further episodes aligned with the academic calendar, supporting curriculum-linked safety themes in a way that schools and parents can integrate seamlessly.
Whether used in assemblies, classroom activities, or at home, these resources are made for accessibility, inclusivity, and impact.
Watch, sing, learn, and grow — with Trafford and Friends.
Final Word
The team at Mad Black Cat is proud to contribute to building a safer world, one story at a time, in conjunction with N332 and educators. By combining creative storytelling with proven educational psychology, we’re sowing the seeds of lifelong safety awareness — all while putting smiles on little faces.
